What is Microsoft's Copilot AI Chatbot?

Microsoft's AI chatbot was originally called Bing Chat when launched in early 2022. However, in November 2022 Microsoft rebranded it as Copilot. Copilot is powered by OpenAI's latest natural language model, GPT-4, which makes it more advanced than ChatGPT.

Copilot can provide detailed, human-like responses to questions with footnotes linking back to original sources. Since Copilot has internet access, it can give up-to-date information.

Users can ask Copilot to write essays, poems, songs, code, and more. It can also generate images from text prompts using Bing Image Creator. Overall, Copilot aims to be a conversational search engine that can answer questions about anything.

How to Access and Use Copilot AI Chatbot

Copilot is available on the web and through the Bing mobile app. To use it, you need to sign in with a free Microsoft account.

With Copilot, you can ask questions, request writing assistance, solve math problems, generate images, and more. It accepts both text and image inputs.

Microsoft's Partnership with OpenAI for Copilot

Microsoft invested heavily in OpenAI before Copilot launched. In 2019, Microsoft put $1 billion into OpenAI, followed by $2 billion more. Recently, Microsoft extended its partnership with a multi-year, multi-billion dollar investment.

OpenAI built GPT-4 specifically to power Copilot. Microsoft gets exclusive access to OpenAI's latest AI through Azure.

Copilot vs. ChatGPT: Which is Better?

In reviews, Copilot outperformed ChatGPT in some key ways. Copilot can provide up-to-date info from the internet, link to sources, and access GPT-4 for free. For these reasons, Copilot is considered the top AI chatbot by reviewers like ZDNet.

Hot Take:

vMicrosoft's new Copilot chatbot has emerged as a formidable ChatGPT rival. Powered by OpenAI's latest GPT-4 model, Copilot provides detailed, conversational answers with links to sources - capabilities that set it apart from other AI assistants. Though not without early stumbles, Microsoft's hefty investment in OpenAI paid off with an advanced chatbot that reviewers say outperforms ChatGPT. For anyone seeking a free AI chatbot with strong language skills and internet search abilities, Copilot is the new leader to beat.
